The International Abalone Society (IAS) is an international forum, intended to promote research on abalone; facilitate the distribution of information on abalone; promote cooperation between abalone researchers and members of the abalone industry; and to recognize the achievements of individuals and organizations by the award of IAS International awards.

The 11th International Abalone Symposium, originally scheduled to be held in February 2021 in Auckland, New Zealand, will be postponed until further notice. A new date will be decided at a future time based on the development of the Covid-19 pandemic and its effects on the world economy and travel restrictions. We will ensure that the the new conference date is announced sufficiently early enough to allow delegates to prepare for attending the meeting.

The 10th IAS symposium was held in Xiamen, China from 8 - 12 May, 2018. Official conference website here >>>

The Pattaya symposium venue provided an opportunity for the third WWF Abalone Dialogue aimed at developing a standard for certifying sustainable abalone aquaculture. The dialogue was well attended, and included industry representatives, aquaculture researchers, and abalone ecologists and aquatic health experts. Under the guidance of WWF's Colin Brannen and colleagues, the mix of skills made for meaningful inputs and laid the foundation for a draft standard. The steering committee responsible for drafting the abalone aquaculture standard was expanded, and is expected to meet to finalise a draft in early 2010.
